About GiftNook

Better gift ideas, with advice to help you choose.

What GiftNook publishes

GiftNook is an independent publication about choosing gifts well. We publish two kinds of pages:

  • Gift guides organized by recipient, age, occasion, interest and budget. They describe kinds of gifts, like "3-in-1 building sets", not individual products.
  • Gift advice on the questions around a gift: how much to spend, what to give someone you don't know well, and how to make a small gift feel personal.

We also run a gift finder that points you to the right guides based on who you're shopping for.

Why GiftNook exists

Most gift lists are built to sell products. They tell you what to buy but rarely whether it suits the person you have in mind, and they almost never mention downsides. GiftNook exists to help with the decision itself.

How it's different from a typical gift list

  • Every idea explains why it can work, who it suits, what to look for and what could go wrong.
  • Guides open with a quick answer and a way to match ideas to the person, not a wall of products.
  • We don't sell anything, link to stores or earn commission on purchases.
  • We don't publish ratings, reviews or testing claims, because we don't test products.
  • Many of our ideas, like letters, favors and time together, can't be bought at all.

Who runs GiftNook

GiftNook is a small, independently run publication. Pages are credited to the GiftNook Editorial Team rather than to named writers, and every page is reviewed by a person before it's published.

GiftNook isn't owned by a retailer, brand or marketplace, and no company pays to appear on the site.

How pages are created

Every idea is weighed against six questions:

  • Age fit: Does the idea match the recipient's stage of life and abilities?
  • Interest fit: Does it connect with something they actually enjoy?
  • Practicality: Does it need special equipment, space, supervision or setup?
  • Longevity: Is it something they'll use or enjoy more than once?
  • Personalization: Can the idea be adapted to the individual?
  • Gift context: Does it suit the occasion, whether a birthday, holiday, thank-you or milestone?

We use AI tools to help with research, outlines and drafts. A person reviews and edits every page for accuracy, suitability and usefulness before it's published. Our editorial policy explains the full process, how we handle corrections, and when pages are reviewed.

How GiftNook is funded

GiftNook doesn't currently show advertising. In the future the site may be supported by clearly labeled ads, kept separate from editorial content. Advertisers will never decide what we write.
